Pollutant standard index (PSI)

A numerical scale used to report daily air quality by measuring the concentration of major atmospheric pollutants like ozone, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter. Insurers and risk managers use this data to assess environmental liability risks for industrial operations and to evaluate potential business interruption or health-related claims arising from severe pollution events. The PSI was the precursor to the Air Quality Index (AQI) now used in the United States.
