Excess and surplus (E&S) lines insurance

A segment of the insurance market that covers unique, unusual, or high-risk exposures that standard admitted carriers are unwilling or unable to insure. E&S carriers are not licensed in every state where they write business, allowing them greater flexibility in policy forms and rates. This market provides coverage for emerging risks, difficult-to-place risks, and those requiring highly customized solutions.
