Express authority

The specific powers an insurer explicitly grants to an agent in the written agency agreement, such as the policies the agent sells, the premiums the agent quotes, and the coverage the agent binds. It is distinct from implied authority, which covers acts reasonably necessary to carry out the express powers, and from apparent authority, which arises from how the insurer presents the agent to the public.
