Independent adjuster

A claims adjuster who works as an independent contractor, not directly employed by any single insurance company. Insurers hire independent adjusters on a fee basis to investigate and settle claims, particularly during periods of high claim volume or for claims in remote areas. They represent the interests of the insurer that hired them, assessing damages and negotiating settlements.
