Joint life and survivor, or second to die, life insurance

A type of life insurance policy that covers two individuals but pays out the death benefit only upon the death of the second insured. The policy remains in force as long as one insured is alive, and the proceeds are distributed after both have passed away. This coverage is often used for estate planning purposes, such as funding estate taxes or providing for heirs.
