Litigation hold

A directive issued by an organization to its employees and agents to preserve all potentially relevant information, including documents and electronic data, when litigation is reasonably anticipated. This measure prevents the alteration or destruction of evidence that might be pertinent to a legal dispute. Failure to implement a litigation hold can result in severe legal sanctions.
