Managing general agent (MGA)

An insurance intermediary who acts as a wholesale agent with the authority to underwrite, price, and bind coverage on behalf of an insurer. A managing general agent (MGA) serves as a bridge between retail agents and insurance carriers, often specializing in niche or high-risk markets that require specific expertise. Unlike a retail agent who works directly with the public, an MGA's primary clients are other insurance producers.
