Micro-captive

A small insurance company established by a business to insure its own risks, qualifying for favorable tax treatment under Section 831(b) of the U.S. tax code. This structure allows a business to deduct premiums paid to its captive insurer, while the captive's underwriting profits are taxed at a lower rate.
