Rent-a-captive

An arrangement where a company uses a segregated cell or protected cell within an existing captive insurance company owned by a third party. This allows the company to gain the benefits of captive insurance, such as direct access to reinsurance and tailored coverage, without the full capital investment and regulatory burden of forming its own captive. The user pays a fee to the captive owner.
