Rental captive

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-003723

An arrangement in which an organization pays a fee to use the capital and licence of a captive insurer owned by a sponsor instead of forming its own. The renter's premiums and losses are tracked in a separate account or, in a protected cell structure, in a legally segregated cell. Segregation is only contractual in a traditional rental, while a protected cell company statute gives cell assets legal protection from the host's other creditors.
