Occurrence year

The calendar year in which an insured event, such as an accident or injury, takes place, regardless of when the claim is reported or paid. This is a key concept in actuarial analysis for liability insurance, particularly for occurrence-based policies. Actuaries use occurrence year data to develop loss triangles and project ultimate losses.
