Overall operating ratio
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-002459
A measure of an insurer's total operating result, found by subtracting the investment income ratio, meaning net investment income as a percentage of earned premium, from the combined ratio. A figure under 100 percent indicates a profit once investment earnings are counted, even if the combined ratio alone exceeds 100 percent. It differs from the combined ratio, which counts only underwriting and leaves out investment income.
