Probationary period

A specific duration at the beginning of a new insurance policy, particularly in health or disability insurance, during which coverage for certain conditions is limited or excluded. This period, which is stated in the policy documents, prevents individuals from purchasing insurance only after they become aware of an impending need for care. The length is fixed, such as 30, 60, or 90 days, and it applies from the policy's effective date.
