Elimination period

The waiting period between the onset of a disability or illness and the date when benefit payments begin under a disability income or long-term care insurance policy. During this time, the insured person must be continuously disabled but receives no benefits. Common elimination periods range from 30 to 180 days, with longer periods typically resulting in lower premiums.
