Disability benefit

A periodic payment from an insurance policy, employer plan, or government program to an individual who is unable to work due to an injury or illness. The amount is a percentage of the insured's pre-disability income, subject to a monthly maximum stated in the policy. Policies define disability as either the inability to perform one's own occupation or any occupation for which one is suited.
