Retrocedent

A reinsurer that transfers a portion of its assumed risks to another reinsurer through a retrocession agreement. This entity acts as the ceding company in the retrocession transaction, seeking to reduce its own exposure to large or catastrophic losses. The retrocedent pays a retrocessional premium to the retrocessionaire.
