Retrocession

A transaction where a reinsurer transfers all or part of the reinsurance it has assumed to another reinsurer. This process allows the initial reinsurer to further diversify its risk portfolio and reduce its exposure to large losses. It is essentially reinsurance of reinsurance, providing additional layers of financial protection.
