Loss portfolio agreements

A type of reinsurance agreement where an insurer transfers a portfolio of existing, often long-tail, liabilities to a reinsurer. This transaction allows the ceding insurer to remove the uncertainty of future claims development and free up capital. The reinsurer assumes the responsibility for paying all future claims arising from the transferred portfolio.
