Per risk excess reinsurance

A form of excess of loss reinsurance where the reinsurer covers losses exceeding a specified retention limit for each individual risk insured by the primary insurer. This agreement protects the ceding company from large losses on specific policies or exposures, rather than on an aggregate portfolio basis. The reinsurer pays only when a single loss event surpasses the agreed-upon threshold for that particular risk.
