Excess workers compensation insurance

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-003642

Coverage that reimburses a self-insured employer, group self-insurance fund, or captive for workers' compensation losses above a stated retention. It is written either per claim, called specific excess, or on total losses for the year, called aggregate excess. Because workers' compensation payments are set by statute, the excess carrier typically pays the statutory amounts above the retention without a dollar limit on the compensation portion.
