Reinsurance credit

The ability of a ceding insurer to reduce its statutory liabilities by the amount of reinsurance ceded to an authorized reinsurer. This allows the ceding insurer to free up capital that would otherwise be held against those liabilities. State insurance regulations specify the conditions under which reinsurance credit can be taken.
