Recapture

The process by which a ceding insurer takes back a portion or all of the reinsurance previously ceded to a reinsurer. This often occurs at the end of a reinsurance treaty period or when specific conditions are met, such as the reinsurer's financial instability. It can also refer to the recovery of funds by an insurer from a third party after paying a claim.
