Nonadmitted reinsurance

Reinsurance placed with a reinsurer that is not licensed or authorized in the ceding insurer's domicile state. Ceding insurers typically receive no credit for this reinsurance on their statutory financial statements unless the reinsurer provides acceptable collateral. This practice is common in the international reinsurance market.
