Retrocessionaire

A reinsurer that accepts a portion of the risk from another reinsurer, known as the retrocedent. This arrangement allows the retrocedent to reduce its own exposure to large or catastrophic losses. The retrocessionaire assumes liability for a share of the retrocedent's reinsurance obligations, typically in exchange for a premium.
