The geographical location where an employee's work is performed or where an injury occurs. Situs is a primary factor in determining which state's workers' compensation laws govern a claim, especially for employees who work in multiple states or at remote locations. For maritime workers, the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act requires that the injury occur on the navigable waters of the United States or an adjoining pier, wharf, dry dock, or similar area.
