Stock company

An insurance company that is owned by its stockholders, who invest capital and expect to receive a return on their investment through dividends and appreciation of stock value. Unlike mutual companies, policyholders do not have ownership rights or receive dividends based on company profits. Stock companies are typically publicly traded or privately held corporations.
