Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-003440
The portion of a risk that an organization implicitly retains due to a lack of awareness, inadequate risk identification, or failure to implement appropriate risk transfer or mitigation strategies. This differs from planned retention, where an organization consciously decides to bear a risk. Unplanned retention can lead to unexpected financial losses if the unaddressed risks materialize.
