Vessel in navigation

A watercraft that is afloat, capable of being moved, and engaged in commerce or transportation on navigable waters. This classification is central to determining whether an injured worker falls under maritime law, such as the Jones Act, rather than state workers' compensation statutes. A vessel is considered in navigation even when temporarily docked or undergoing minor repairs, provided it retains its ability to move.
