Unseaworthiness

The condition of a vessel being unfit for its intended voyage or purpose due to defects in its hull, equipment, crew, or cargo. Under maritime law, a shipowner has an absolute duty to provide a seaworthy vessel. An injured seaman can claim damages under the doctrine of unseaworthiness, which is a strict liability concept.
