Barratry

An unlawful act committed by the master or crew of a ship against the ship's owner or charterer, resulting in loss or damage to the vessel or its cargo. Examples include scuttling the ship, embezzling cargo, or intentionally deviating from the planned voyage. Barratry is a covered peril under most marine insurance policies, provided the owner was not complicit in the act.
