Demurrage

A charge payable to the owner of a chartered ship or freight car for delays in loading or unloading beyond the agreed-upon time. In marine insurance, demurrage costs can sometimes be covered under specific clauses if the delay is caused by an insured peril. These charges compensate the carrier for the loss of use of their equipment.
