Demurrage

A charge levied by a carrier or port authority when cargo remains in a container or on a vessel beyond the agreed-upon free time for loading or unloading. This fee compensates the carrier for the loss of use of their equipment or space. Demurrage charges are typically calculated on a per-day basis.
