A charge levied by a port or terminal operator for the use of a wharf or pier for the loading, unloading, or temporary storage of cargo. This fee covers the cost of maintaining the berthing facilities and associated infrastructure. Wharfage rates are typically calculated per unit of cargo, such as per ton or per cubic meter, or as a percentage of the cargo's value.
