Ad valorem

A type of tax or duty calculated as a percentage of the assessed value of an item or transaction, rather than a fixed amount per unit. This method is commonly applied to customs duties, property taxes, and insurance premiums. For example, an ad valorem customs duty of 5% on goods valued at $10,000 would result in a $500 charge.
