A professional who prepares, maintains, and inspects financial records for individuals or businesses. In a legal context, forensic accountants are often retained as expert witnesses to analyze financial data, trace assets, calculate damages, and detect fraud in cases involving divorce, bankruptcy, or commercial disputes. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is licensed by a state board of accountancy after passing the Uniform CPA Examination.
