Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001877

A tax professional federally licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). An individual achieves this status, becoming an enrolled agent (EA), by either passing a three-part examination covering individual and business tax returns or through relevant experience as a former IRS employee. Unlike attorneys and Certified Public Accountants, who are state-licensed, an EA's right to practice is granted by the federal government and is valid in all 50 states.
