Acquisition

The act of one company taking over another, either by purchasing its stock, assets, or a controlling interest. This transaction results in the acquired company becoming a subsidiary or being integrated into the acquiring entity. Acquisitions are governed by corporate law and antitrust regulations to prevent monopolies.
