Special Purpose Acquisition Company

A publicly traded company formed solely to raise capital through an initial public offering (IPO) for the purpose of acquiring an existing private company. These entities, also known as SPACs, have no commercial operations themselves. The funds raised are held in a trust account until an acquisition target is identified and approved by shareholders, typically within a two-year timeframe.
