Alias

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-000458

A name other than a person's true or legal name, used in place of it or alongside it, often to conceal identity, as in John Smith, alias John Doe. Court records and charging documents list known aliases so that a defendant is identified under each name. A writ or warrant called an alias is unrelated to this meaning, because it is a second issue of earlier process that was not served.
