Asylum

Protection granted by a state to a foreign national fleeing persecution in their home country. An individual seeking asylum must demonstrate a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Asylum status is granted under international and national laws, such as the Immigration and Nationality Act in the United States.
