Attorney fees

The payment for legal services rendered by a lawyer or law firm, calculated in several ways. Fees are structured as a flat rate for a specific service, an hourly rate for time spent, or a contingency fee based on a percentage of the recovery in a case. Under the American Rule, each party in a lawsuit pays its own attorney fees, regardless of the outcome, unless a statute or contract provides otherwise.
