Calendar year accounting period

A 12-month accounting period that begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. Many businesses and individuals use this period for financial reporting and tax purposes. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) generally requires taxpayers to use a calendar year unless they establish a different fiscal year.
