Creditor

  1. A person, company, or other entity to whom a debt is owed by another party, the debtor. The creditor has a legal claim on the debtor's assets and the right to demand repayment of the money or property that was loaned. In bankruptcy proceedings, creditors are categorized as secured, having a claim on specific collateral, or unsecured.

  2. A person to whom or business to which the debtor owes money or that claims to be owed money by the debtor.
