A trial court of general jurisdiction in the federal judiciary system, or a state court with a specific geographical jurisdiction. In the federal system, there are 94 judicial districts, and these courts are the primary venue for both civil and criminal cases arising under federal law. They handle everything from initial hearings and trials to the entry of judgments, with their decisions being appealable to the corresponding U.S. Court of Appeals.
