Emergency protective order

A type of temporary restraining order issued by a court in urgent situations to provide immediate protection from harm or harassment. Law enforcement officers can request one on behalf of a victim at any time, day or night, without the alleged abuser being present. These orders have a very short duration, such as five to seven days, during which time the protected person must apply for a longer-term order.
