Estimated taxes

Payments of income tax, self-employment tax, and other taxes made throughout the year as income is earned, rather than in a lump sum at the end of the tax year. This system applies to individuals who expect to owe at least a certain amount of tax and do not have sufficient withholding from wages. Payments are typically made quarterly to the Internal Revenue Service.
