Interest

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002690

A legal right, claim, or share in property or a business, which can be possessory or non-possessory. An interest can range from full ownership, like a fee simple estate, to a more limited right, such as an easement, a security interest, or a life estate. The nature and extent of an interest determine the holder's ability to possess, use, transfer, or encumber the property, and these rights are enforceable by law against others.
