King's Bench

A historic superior court in England, originally presided over by the monarch and later by judges. It exercised jurisdiction over criminal matters, pleas of the crown, and civil actions involving the king's peace. Its functions were eventually absorbed into the High Court of Justice through the Judicature Acts of the late 19th century.
