Litigant

A party to a lawsuit, including the plaintiff who initiates the legal action and the defendant who is being sued. The term encompasses any person or entity, such as a corporation or government agency, actively involved in prosecuting or defending a case in a court of law. In a multi-party case, there can be multiple plaintiffs or defendants, as well as third-party litigants brought into the dispute.
