Malum in se

An act that is considered inherently wrong or immoral, regardless of whether it is prohibited by law. Such acts are viewed as evil in themselves because they violate natural, moral, or public principles of a civilized society, with examples including murder, theft, and assault. This concept is distinguished from malum prohibitum, which describes an act that is wrong only because it is legally forbidden, such as a traffic violation or building code infraction.
